With children this process is exemplified in experiential play therapy developed by Dr, Byron E. Norton and Dr. Carol C. Norton with Family Psychological Services, P.C. (www.playtherapy.ws), and The Center for Experiential Play Therapy (www.experientialplaytherapy.com). This process also may include attention to childrens’ needs for understanding, support with their grieving, assistance in improving their assertiveness skills, education about the structure and function of their brains, and attention to their struggles regarding individuation typically hindered by “family-of-origin” issues.
